When Is the Best Time to Trim Trees in Minnesota?

Practical homeowner guidance
What to Know Before You Schedule
Dormant-season trimming is often useful because structure is visible and many insects and pathogens are inactive. Oaks should generally not be pruned during Minnesota’s high-risk April-through-July oak wilt window. Immediate hazards are different: broken or hanging limbs should be addressed promptly. The right timing depends on species, condition, and whether the goal is deadwood, clearance, or young-tree structure.
Every tree and property changes the recommendation. Tree size, species, condition, access, targets, ground conditions, disposal, and equipment all matter. Photos are useful for early planning, but a free site estimate gives the clearest scope and price.
Brown's Tree Service LLC is licensed and fully insured, including general liability and workers' compensation. Owner Steven Brown serves Stewartville, Rochester, and communities throughout Olmsted, Dodge, Fillmore, and Mower counties.
For active hazards, keep people away and call the 24/7 emergency line. For planned work, send wide photos of the tree, close images of visible defects, and a view of access from the road.
